Years of experience, along with a knowledgeable support staff skilled in the advanced techniques of patient care help us provide the best veterinary medicine possible. Our facility is welcoming and calm as we strive to provide a home-like atmosphere for our clients. We have an ongoing commitment to quality care—always giving support and time to clients who want to make the best decision for their pets.

Behavior Counseling for Your Pet

Behavior problems are one of the top reasons owners may give up a pet. For this reason, our staff considers it a very important aspect of client care. North Haven Animal Hospital and North Colony Animal Hospital offer behavior counseling for many of your pet's problems including inappropriate urination or defecation, aggression, separation anxiety, inappropriate chewing and barking and introduction of new pets into the household. In some instances, behaviors can be linked to a medical condition that may need medical intervention.

Our hospitals maintain an extensive library of information about behavior problems. Our veterinarians help you recognize, validate and categorize behavior problems. We work closely with you in developing a specific plan to help eliminate your pet's unwanted behavior. The treatment plan may include behavior modification, training, or medication-assisted training. We also offer referrals to a board-certified behaviorist in difficult cases.

Nutrition Counseling & Prescription Diets

<? echo $title; ?>We offer prescription diets and nutrition counseling during your pet's wellness examination.

Why is this important? Pets are living longer, healthier lives than ever before and a big part of that is due to our expanded knowledge of the importance of proper nutrition to overall health. In fact, nutrition is one of the biggest health variables controlled by a pet's caregiver.

Some pets can have medical conditions, such as liver and intestinal disease, bladder and kidney stones, renal disease, food allergies, diabetes and other conditions that can benefit from a special diet. In addition, obesity in pets is one of the most common diseases we see. During your pet's exam, we evaluate their body condition and give recommendations based on our findings.

We carry an extensive variety of prescription foods made by Hill's and Royal Canin. We understand that the cost of prescription food is higher than regular food and we strive to have competitive pricing. We encourage all clients whose pets require these special diets to call ahead and place an order for this food. If your pet requires a prescription diet we do not carry, we may be able to order it for you.

Domestic & International Health Certificates

Traveling with your pet by land and entering different states within the U.S. will sometimes require a health certificate from your veterinarian. Taking your pet on a flight will also require a health certificate. A health certificate is a signed document your veterinarian gives you after a full physical examination. This document states your pet is currently healthy. Our veterinarians are accredited to sign both domestic and international health certificates.

There are two types of health certificates:

Domestic Health Certificate

These health certificates are issued for flight or land destinations within the United States.

International Health Certificate

International health certificates are issued for flight destinations to other countries. Keep in mind, these export documents are time sensitive. Each country has its own specific requirements at the port of entry and we ask that you fully research all paperwork needed to bring your pet into the country that you plan to enter.

If you plan to travel with your pet, please call us to schedule an appointment.

Drop-Off Services

We understand that our clients have busy schedules and that scheduling an appointment during business hours can be difficult. For your convenience, we offer a drop-off service where clients can leave their pet with us in the morning (as early as 7:30am – North Haven only) and then pick them up at the end of the day (by 5:45pm).
